THE OUTRUN
After living life on the edge in London, Rona attempts to come to terms with her troubled past. Hoping to heal, she returns to the wild beauty of Scotland's Orkney Islands where she grew up.
Starring and produced by Saoirse Ronan, and adapted from the bestselling memoir by Amy Liptrot, 'The Outrun' is a life-affirming story about living on the edge, healing and what it means to return home.
After a decade away in London, 29-year-old Rona (played by Saoirse Ronan) returns home to the Orkney Islands. Sober but lonely, she tries to suppress her memory of the events which set her on this journey of recovery. Slowly the mystical land enters her inner world and – one day at a time – Rona finds hope and strength in herself among the heavy gales and the bracingly cold sea.
"Gritty, intense and often harrowing UK drama concerning a woman's return from rehab to her dysfunctional family deals with addiction and mental health issues in realistic fashion."
